Believe me when I say you could almost die laughing from this character. Strong performances from them both, with a good rapport and beautiful comic timing - though first night nerves seemed to take a little of the confidence from their vocals.Ĭhristian de L'Argy is a joy as Orin - the nitrus-oxide addicted leather-clad dentist. She's a tart with a heart who aspires to get out of the Skid Row gutter, to marry an upstanding gentleman and make a home complete with white chain-linked fence. Humphries has always excelled in the bigger, bolder, character roles - and she doesn't disappoint as Audrey - a leopard-skin clad, high-heel tottering, wannabe desperate housewife. Harry Burt and Rebecca Humphries step into the limelight as lead characters Seymour and Audrey (the love interest).īoth are no strangers to performing in Norfolk, having starred in many productions from the Norwich Theatre Royal's Youth Theatre Company.Īs they follow their acting endeavours at university, it's good to see them both back and on stage in Norwich.īurt is comfortable in the role of the hapless Seymour and it's clear his acting talents are maturing with age and experience. ![]() Just sit back and enjoy being fed the laughs and music of this far-fetched tale, delivered by a competent cast. There's nothing cerebral about this show - well I suppose you could get all deep about life in the slums of America, a wife-beater type boyfriend come masochistic dentist and the dream of a better life.īut I recommend you ditch the literary analysis. This peculiar plant brings him fame and romance, the only snag - the plant grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, blues-singing giant with an insatiable appetite for human blood! Summer in Norfolk has been something of a wet, grey and dull affair - so thank goodness for the small oasis of colour offered in the Maddermarket's entertaining production of the Little Shop Of Horrors.Īn award-winning off-Broadway hit that ran for five years in New York, the spoof sci-fi musical is based on the low-budget 1690 black comedy.
